Advances in medicine have resulted increased longevity, which has consequently led to unexpected geriatric syndromes, such as frailty and sarcopenia. Patients with end-stage kidney disease, especially those receiving dialysis treatment, often show characteristic reductions body protein energy storage, termed wasting (PEW). Therefore, maintenance of nutritional condition a key role defending against both syndromes PEW, share several components elderly individuals undergoing hemodialysis. To counteract the development an undesirable condition, evaluation is indispensable. In addition simple measurements mass index, serum albumin creatinine, composite assessment including malnutrition inflammation score useful, although subjective elements are included well-trained examiner required. On other hand, risk index for Japanese hemodialysis patients (NRI-JH) objective tools, easy use clinical settings. Undernutrition closely related infectious events results infection serious patients, even survival, large medical costs incurred. Together appropriate evaluation, it necessary clarify underlying relationship PEW improvement prognosis affected individuals.
